What is “Expressive Arts Work”?

Hi! I’m Bridget, owner of Expressive Arts Work. I help stressed-out teens (especially LGBTQQI+ teens) and families reduce stress and connect to their breath using daily art practices. Any art practice can be used in this work, ranging from music, drawing, and sculpture, to movement, video, and poetry. It’s really up to each individual how they use the expressive arts.

ALL individuals and families are welcome to this work.

ALL people are welcome to this work, whether they identify as straight, queer, cis, or trans. This is a place of inclusivity.

I’m excited to give you an update on my offerings and to briefly share with you why I do this work.

As a psychotherapist and facilitator, I’ll help you dive deep into the healing power of the arts through either online or in-person sessions, whichever is most comfortable for you. We will assess which offer is a just-right fit for you, therapy or the ex-art sessions, which are not therapy.

Online sessions for individuals or groups are offered on Zoom. In-person sessions are available by appointment and held in my office in the Hayes Valley neighborhood of San Francisco.

Whether in person or online, together we’ll create a welcoming space where you can dive deep.

My goal is the help you gain a deep sense of connection in our work together, and you will find community when you join a group.

My training and life experiences have led me to a deep belief in the power of creative self expression through art. It can help heal our emotional wounds, integrate our intellectual and creative self, and support a positive, productive somatic experience of who we really are - in this body and in this life. Having experienced this for myself, I’m committed to sharing this simple yet extraordinarily powerful discovery with all who are searching for peace and connection in their own lives.

I operate on the principles of justice, equity, and human connection. I am committed to creating mutual aid relationships with members of my community.

The world has enough for everyone’s needs, not everyone’s greed.
— Mahatma Gandhi

To me, this means we each discern what our need is versus what we feel like we deserve. That discernment informs our intention about how we raise money and what kind of growth we want.

That’s why I run this business based on a gift economy. In short, you pay what makes sense to you and I keep only what I need to support my small family (rent, food, utilities, and business expenses). The rest of my income from this side of my business flows through to local Black, Indigenous, and People of Color mutual aid groups. For more information about this please see this slide deck from the East Bay Peace Academy.

In addition to my commitment to making expressive arts available to everyone regardless of income, I’m equally committed to justice for all people. I am humbled and grateful to have my office in the Hayes Valley neighborhood, which is the ancestral home of the Ramaytush Ohlone people. In the spirit of justice and equity, I urge everyone to please go here to pay the appropriate land tax for the income on the land where you reside.

Now that you know a little bit about me and how I can help you find the peace and connection you’re seeking, I invite you to explore my website, learn what’s available, and reach out. If you’re curious to know more, here’s how you can connect with me:
